About Dugie

Norman "Dugie" Russell was born in Beverly,
Massachusetts on February 13, 1939.  After
attending Beverly High School, Dugie joined the
United States Air Force.  He completed basic
training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio,
Texas, then was trained in weapons mechanics at
Lowry Air Force Base in Denver, Colorado, before
being stationed at Goose Bay, Labrador with the
59th Fighter Interceptor Squadron.  He was then
transferred to Thule, Greenland with the 74th
Fighter Interceptor Squadron, the "Flying Tigers,"
a descendant of the original squadron based in
China during WWII.  Dugie ended his service in
Niagra Falls, New York, before being discharged in
1960.

Upon return to Beverly, Dugie married Marie
Young in 1961.  Dugie became infatuated with
scuba diving shortly thereafter and joined the
Essex County Sherriff's Department as a Deputy
Sherriff and Court Officer, while pursuing further
study in the criminal justice system.  Dugie became
one of the original founders of the Essex County
Sherriff's Search and Recovery Dive Team.

After 29 years working as a court officer in the
Massachusetts' court system, Dugie retired in
2002, devoting more time to his many hobbies and
interests.

Dugie and Marie remain married after almost 50
years and reside in Beverly, MA.  They have three
children, Scott, Bradley and Karen; four
grandchildren, Evan, Nolan, Colin and
Christopher; and a faithful dog, Clara.
